Digital Footprint is a privacy-first browser extension designed to help users understand their browsing habits through local activity tracking, categories, history, and browsing streaks.
1. Our Privacy Commitment
Digital Footprint is designed so that your browsing activity stays on your device.
We do not operate a server for collecting Digital Footprint browsing data, and the extension does not send your browsing activity to us or to third-party analytics services.
No account is required to use the extension.
2. Information the Extension Processes
Digital Footprint processes limited information about websites you visit in order to provide its core functionality.
This may include:
- Website domain names, such as
github.com - Website names when they are recognized by the extension
- Website categories
- Visit start and end times
- Visit duration
- Daily visit counts
- Daily category statistics
- Daily website statistics
- Streak information calculated from local activity
3. Information We Do Not Collect
Digital Footprint does not intentionally collect:
- Passwords
- Cookies
- Form contents
- Page contents
- Text entered into websites
- Search queries
- Personal messages
- Files
- Screenshots
- Clipboard contents
- Precise location
- IP addresses
- User account credentials
4. Where Your Data Is Stored
Digital Footprint stores its activity data locally using the browser's extension storage.
The data is not uploaded to a Digital Footprint server.
The extension does not use cloud databases, analytics services, advertising trackers, or third-party telemetry services to collect browsing activity.
5. Why Website Access Is Required
Digital Footprint uses browser tab information to determine the domain of the currently active website.
This information is necessary to record website visits, detect website changes, group activity into categories, calculate browsing streaks, and display local browsing history.
6. Tracking Controls
You can pause website tracking from the extension's Settings screen. When tracking is paused, Digital Footprint stops recording new website visits.
7. Deleting Your Data
Digital Footprint provides a "Clear All History" control in Settings.
Using this control deletes the browsing activity stored by the extension, including recorded visits, daily statistics, and active tracking sessions.
Clearing history does not affect your normal browser history or data stored by other extensions or websites.
8. Data Sharing
Digital Footprint does not sell, rent, or share your browsing activity with advertisers, analytics providers, data brokers, or other third parties.
9. Third-Party Services
Digital Footprint does not use third-party analytics, advertising, telemetry, or cloud storage services to collect your browsing activity.
10. Security
We take reasonable measures to minimize the information processed by the extension. Website activity is stored locally, full URLs are not intentionally stored, and browsing activity is not transmitted to a remote server.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
If the privacy practices of Digital Footprint change, this Privacy Policy will be updated to accurately describe those changes.
